Nicolas takes us through his distinctive professional journey, from his previous experiences to his current job at Airbus. As a Cybersecurity Software Developer, he talks about his missions and what he enjoys most, followed by some advice for those wanting to join our cyber teams!

Meet Nicolas

Nicolas has been working as a Cyber Security Software Developer within Airbus Defence and Space Cyber for 1 year, as part of the Graduate Programme. This programme is designed for recent graduates with high potential and offers the opportunity to explore all facets of the company through rotations across various departments.

What is your career background?

I have a quite unique journey compared to other engineers. I integrated a two-year technical degree in Business Unit Management (MUC) through a work-study programme, but as I struggled to adapt to the academic system, I quickly decided to change paths.

Being naturally curious, after leaving the technical degree program, I explored various jobs: Electrician, Bricklayer, Commercial, Assistant Manager, Soldier (Marine Rifleman), Bartender, Server and Salesman.

Then, at 24 years old, being passionate about computing, I started a 6-month online training course, followed by a 6-month internship as a Web and Mobile Developer with a Digital Service Company.

I then pursued a Bachelor degree through a work-study programme within the company as a Web and Mobile Applications Designer, followed by a Master’s degree in IT and Information Systems.

After finishing my studies, I decided to start my own freelance business in computer programming. I then discovered the Airbus Global Graduate Programme (AGGP), decided to apply and joined Airbus in October 2024.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

I love solving problems and learning new things every day. IT is constantly evolving and you always need to keep up-to-date, because intellectual stimulation is constant.

What advice would you give someone who is interested in joining Airbus?

My best advice would be to believe in yourself and your skills. IT is a field where competencies are much more important than diplomas, so you need to put your skills first!
